![]() Despite appearing to be defeated by Xavier, the Shadow King story was being seeded and the villain would appear or be referenced in every book in the line, ramping up towards the final conclusion. The rising popularity of the books and large amount of material to cover created the need for a separate ongoing title along with Uncanny X-Men. The Muir Island Saga continues as originally planned, as a prologue to the conclusion of Claremont’s saga, setting up the Shadow King as an ongoing overall threat to mutant-kind and reuniting the X-Factor team with the core X-Men team. Tensions rose between the creative teams of the books, boiled down to Claremont’s desire to progress the characters through change and Jim Lee’s belief that the X-Men should revert to a more classic approach, appealing to a greater audience.Chris Claremont posed an ultimatum over creative control to prevent going back on character development and upsetting a loyal fan base by wrapping up his mega-run on the X-Men books by Uncanny X-Men #300. ![]() Along with its other founders, these artists are spearheading a cultural phenomenon of their own: one where the stylistic art style takes precedent over ongoing plot and character arcs. ![]() Recent issues of the series have been drawn by Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld, soon to break off and form Image Comics.
